1. Woman Empowerment

TUMAINI LETU WOMEN EMPOWERNMENT PROGRAMME


For the past decades development project has put women as weaker partners. Yet TUMAINI LETU’s operation area women’s freedom to develop their full economic potential is constrained by social economic and political norms and practices. Development means more than economic growth and the fulfillment of basic needs such as health care, nutrition, sanitation and education. Development is the process to expand freedom that people enjoy. This implies the interconnection between economic facilities, political freedoms, social opportunities, transparency grantees and protective security that influence the process of development, and which require plurality of the institutions. Using right and freedom approach to development. In this project TUMAINI LETU synthesizes the finding from the number of promoting women development programs. The project explored women economic roles and opportunities and their aspiration for advancement, reviews constraints faced, women’s rights and capacities and develops programs and practices.

2. Driving Force

During this process the planning team discussed about why they think Tumaini Letu existence is still important [driving forces of Tumaini Letu]. Categorically they came up with the following driving forces


  • Inadequate follow ups, supervision and performances of Policies, Child law and other guidelines related to ECD
  • Low community awareness on ECD related matters E.g. Child law, ECD polic
  • Poor economic status for families and other stakeholders responsible for the well being of a child
  • Inadequate allocation of resources on ECD children’s issues, there is no much priority on investing to young children.
  • The existence of human rights violation in Tanzania leading to unjust situation among the populatio
  • Negative attitudes to children with disabilities
  • Lack of political will via priorities and interference
  • Increase of environmental degradation in Tanzania that leads to hazardous effects to the environment and in the community
  • Poor traditional and custom practices which affects more children. E.g. Early marriages, FMG.
  • Lack of child friendly environments for children to play and learn
  • Family conflicts and parents separatio
  • Progressive deterioration of economic status and insufficient empowerment and support among marginalized groups in the community has resulted into unsecure life
  • Misuse of technologies and lack of controls in TV and other media programs.
  • Poor parenting skills E.g. children to take care of their fellow children
  • Child exposure to harmful environments E.g. entertainments areas, night traditional dances
  • Irresponsibility’s of parents toward taking care of young children and development progresses
  • Poor ideologies toward care and parenting skills, young children growth and children with disabilities
  • Low awareness and practices on family planning and birth controls
  • High incidence and prevalence of different endemic diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria.
